Who are you?

My name is Haydn Evans.
I’m an entrepreneur, designer, educator and design leader with over twenty-five years experience building brands, companies, products and services that see you and your needs, reduce complexity and when all’s said and done create value.

My earliest interests and education was in music and fine art. But the ‘bohemian’ life wasn’t the life for me. The need to make a living outweighed the joy of creating and performing. But, luckily there was this thing called Design. Design too offered the opportunity to reach and meet the needs of a wider audience.

In 1998 I co-founded my first company in England, Casciani Evans Wood with Jonathan Casciani and Oliver Wood—now Joff & Ollie. We specialised in branding and graphic design for web, print and signage. Working with clients such as Paul Smith and The Nottingham Playhouse.

After moving to and settling in Norway I co-founded Zoot with Graham Mansfield in 2006, one of Norway’s first companies to practice Service Design. Zoot was acquired in 2012 by Making Waves—now NOA Ignite.

I have broad cross-sector experience working with: Food & grocery, hospitality, e-commerce, online marketplaces, public transport, mobility, logistics, banking, insurance, finance, health, public services, culture and charities.

For example, I worked with the amazing staff at Oslo’s A&E to help patients feel more secure, better informed and realistic in their expectations of what to expect from the service.

I’ve also worked with Save the Children Norway on how they approach digital fundraising and communicating the value of their work.

Between 2019-22 I worked as a design consultant (Blank) with The Norwegian Post Office (Posten), as part of their Innovation Lab, starting up, designing and building AMOI, a marketplace platform connecting specialist shops and services to people in and around the cities of Oslo, Bergen & Stockholm.

In 2022 I became Design Director at the Norwegian scale-up Oda, involved it helping build their culture for how design plays an integral part in strategy, growth and product development across the organisation and markets.

In recent years I’ve been working to see how Design can contribute to building regenerative, sustainable and circular products and services.

I was involved—for example—in launching a circular service for Posten on the AMOI marketplace platform, enabling people who want to experience the great outdoors to rent equipment instead of buying it.

Since 2004 I’ve worked periodically with The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, collaborating on research projects, jury member on their design prize AHO Works and as an external examiner and supervisor on the Master of Design course.

I am also an advocate of Visual Thinking, a believer in the power of drawing to tame complexity, quickly communicate ideas, collaborate and understand one another. So much so that I’ve developed a course called Drawing at Work.

Well that’s quite enough trumpet blowing. If you made it this far then well done! Maybe you’d like to get in touch and have a chat?
